OK, so the lymph node under the right side of my law is swollen and hurting. It is hard, painful to the touch (and painful in general) and came up very quickly.

I think I have the Plague (apparently this is one of the symptoms).

My Sweet Innocent Children

THE WIFE IM'd me and let me know one of the girls had picked up a habit from me. The transaction went like this:

(11:26:35 AM) THE WIFE: OK. Your daughter has picked up another one from you. She just didn't get it quite right.
(11:27:02 AM) Houston: what is that
(11:27:08 AM) THE WIFE: She just walked through here, hit her foot, stubbed her toe and yelled "Son of fish sticks!!!"
(11:27:32 AM) Houston: that's what I ALWAYS yell!
(11:28:03 AM) THE WIFE: tell me that you didn't just about fall over when you read that.
(11:28:12 AM) Houston: yes
(11:28:16 AM) Houston: maybe a little
(11:31:09 AM) THE WIFE: Yeah, I about peed my pants myself. Before I even said anything she looked at me and said "Sorry Momma". I probably wouldn't have even really paid attention if she didn't apologize because she knew that she had just said a dirty word... LOL
(11:32:48 AM) THE WIFE: Too bad you have such a potty mouth...
(11:33:56 AM) Houston: yes I know

I Am Not As Dumb As I Thought

OK, so that is debatable, but anyway...

I had a guy call in with one way speech on his server. he explains the situation, I get it and ask him for a log. He says no problem, I will FTP it to you. He then opens up Internet Explorer and it has his old log in information for the wrong area of the server and he asks me how to clear it.

So then he says, never mind, jumps into command line and FTPs it that way.

????? wow.

I appreciate everyone's support in dealing with IT.

Since I didn't get pictures up yesterday, here are yesterday and today's lunchbags.

The Adventures Of Ben

Ben's teacher has a new name as far as I am concerned... IT.

I call IT this because I am so angry I do not ever want to speak her name again.

Last night Ben told me he had to stay in from recess to finish his spelling. This wouldn't be such a huge deal except I keep getting reports from IT that Ben is happy and well adjusted and everything is fine why do I worry? He was also told by IT that he would be sent to the principal's office. This confused us and set off alarm bells because it reeked of a setup.

Amazing that when IT couldn't get him to co-operate in class he went IMMEDIATELY to the disciplinary class. Now that he has been diagnosted as Autistic, he can only seem to go and do work during recess. I think it has to do with me making a big deal out of it because I keep telling IT he needs "Social skills" and he gets that at recess... but I digress.

So I ran by Ben's school this morning to find out who I need to talk to in order to get him into another school next year. I was referred to the district which is OK by me, my main goal it to make sure he gets into a place where he can get SOME assistance. (Just to keep everyone in the loop, the ONLY modification they have held to is to allow him to take TAKS in a small group. Everything else was just blown over.

THE WIFE stopped by a little later to drop off Christopher's lunch bag only to see Ben in the principal's office. She stopped and asked the Principal what was up and was told he didn't do his homework last night and wasn't writing his spelling, so IT sent him there.

THE WIFE insisted he had done his homework last night (obviously the alarm bells paid off) and proceeded to dig through his folder. The work wasn't right on top, but it was in there. Obviously he couldn't find it, so rather than helping him she sent him straight to the principal's office. The issue with the spelling was IT wanted to him to write his spelling words in cursive, and he printed them.

The principal seemed a little embarrassed, and was more confused when we talked to him and told him Ben was supposed to be working on cursive handwriting with the occupational therapist. He even admitted it was obvious Ben was struggling with the handwriting.

So I sent out an email telling the staff I wanted an ARD scheduled so we could address these issues.

I. Am. So. Angry.

I've Felt Like This

Ahhhhhh. Food, it's what's for dinner.

What The???

I rebooted my Exchange server and turned around to go get a cup of coffee when I realized NO ONE ELSE IS IN MY FREAKING AREA!

Seriously... a tumbleweed just rolled through.

It's usually very quiet and depressing over here anyway, but when the boss, his underling, and everyone else is gone, it gets downright creepy.

I am going to fire up Laura Ingraham so I can have some human voices to listen to.

Other than the ones in my head...

One From The Master

I never was a Johnny Cash fan, but I loved this song when Nine Inch Nails did it, and I think Mister Cash did a GREAT remake.

This is a masterpiece.

Top Of My Game

Today is one of those days where I can spot and fix problems. I feel positive and productive.

I will be watching out to make sure I don't get hit by a bus and ruin my day.

The Sheep Lies!

OK, so if you don't know the joke to go with the punchline email me at houstonkeys (at) and I will fill you in. Needless to say I have completely corrupted my buddy Sam by telling him that one joke.

Well that and sending him THIS picture!

I'm so baaaaaaaaaaad!

St Patrick's Day?

Oh yeah, I wore my green, no pinching my bum this year.

I also was emailed some pics from my two favorite ladies, that's right...

Anyway, since you have enjoyed these visions of beauty, I now leave you with the view of my dog. For some inexplicable reason she felt like she HAD to sleep with me on the couch over the weekend (despite the danger).

Love knows no bounds.

Truer Words Were Never Spoken

"Rule of thumb: If your company has more VPs than it does bathrooms, you’re in trouble."

Found it while reading this about old Atari layoffs. Some things never change.

Eat THIS Boys!

OK, so it's a slow day, but in honor of Easter (which is coming up), here are the lunch bags for today.

Morning Lunchbags!

OK, so my two younger boys usually take their lunch to school and I take my lunch to work. The boys use the Brown-Paper-Bag method of transportation, so to spice up their lives THE WIFE suggested I draw on the bags to give them some character. Since the oldest boy is griping about me whining on my blog about Microsoft (and I like to have pictures and video on here anyway), I decided to include pictures of some of the bags.

Maybe I will occasionally make a funny one everyone will enjoy. Here are today's selections;

I WILL take requests, so send in suggestions in the comments and (provided you won't get my kids in trouble) you might see your idea on brown paper!

Microsoft Certification Path

OK, so I have been giving this some thought. As I have complained about, I am going through an MCSE boot camp and while it has been extremely helpful, it is not all encompassing. What I mean is, I won't be going out and plunking down the cash for 7 tests at $125 each.

The good news is, I get two chances before I have to start paying. I think the process I will follow is this...

Take 70-631 on Sharepoint 3.0. This will get me my MCP number (so Microsoft realizes I exist) and give me MCTS status on WSS. This way, my boss can see forward action.

Next... Study, study, study and take the following tests:
(Core Tests)
70-290 Managing and Maintaining Server 2003
70-291 Implementing and Managing Server 2003 Network Infastructure

(Client Test)
70-270 Installing Configuring and administering Windows XP

I will already have an elective (WSS) out of the way, that will get me my MCSA. Of course, I might take the 70-620 which is for Vista as it will serve me more in the long run, but I have the data for XP.

After that I have to study, study, study and take the following exams:

70-293 Planning a Server 2003 Network Infastructure
70-294 Planning Implementing and Maintaining Server 2003 Active Directory Infastructure
70-297 Designing a Server 2003 Active Directory Infastructure

That will result in an MCSE... But man, those tests are bears (at least from where I am now). We'll see where it all winds up, but at least I feel a little better with a plan for going forward. I always do better with short achieveable goals to work toward.

Goodbye Stealth Fighter

The F-117 is being retired. I hadn't even heard about it until I saw the article on First the SR-71, then the F-14, now the F-117. All the planes I used to get gassed about are gone (F-15 is still around though, but it's days are numbered).

This is something Chris usually keeps me in the loop on, so I am kind of suprised.

I am very disappointed, my son has let me down on keeping me updated on something with destructive potential being taken out of service.

The sky is falling! The sky is falling!

Ghost Hunters

Watched the season opener of Ghost Hunters last night and was pretty happy with it. Chris and I enjoyed the investigation and all in all, I have a lot of hope for this season.

New Time Waster!

OK, so Laurence has me addicted to the site Garfield Minus Garfield.

The premise is Jon without Garfield, which looks suprisingly like what my life would be like once my kids move out and it's just me and THE WIFE alone. Of course I would be insane at that point.

I had to turn on comment moderation thanks to the guy putting bad links in his comment. Sorry for the inconvienience.

OK, so I have been trying to come up with something funny to say and I have been failing miserably. Apparantly this boot camp has sucked all the funny from my system.

I think I will participate in the annual IEATAPETA (International Eat A Tasty Animal for PETA) day. Thank you Laurence for reminding me.

I think I will do a little grilling, perhaps Bar-b-que or Fajitas... Hmmmm

Anyone want to drop by?

Morning Letdown From Last Night's Fury

So, now I am hoping I didn't make Ben's life horrible by pointing out to his teacher how short sighted she is. I should be more understanding as she just doesn't understand. The problem is we keep telling her and she doesn't listen. Unfortunately she wants to think he is like everyone else and she can make him "Better."

The thing is, he is not going to get better, he is who he is. He is my son and I love him and I can't stand people treating him bad.

Well enough of this crud. I want to share something to make everyone smile. Here is a picture of Sadie seeing snow for the first time.

There is hope for the world.

There Is No Justice

I have been so angry all day today I have felt like I am the verge of a stroke. My head is physically pounding right now I am still so mad.

Last Friday Ben's teacher sent an email telling us he didn't do hi homework and he had to walk the fence for 15 minutes each day. Ben told us he didn't walk the fence and we KNEW he had done his homework every night except Thursday night. We emailed back and told her as much. I also copied my wife and asked her to do a reply to all so THE WIFE could be in the loop.

She did NOT reply to all and after several emails where I was trying to figure out what was supposed to happen based on the ARD she had last week. Finally we got an email back from the teacher who said she had to go on what Ben said because he told her he hadn't done the work and that she didn't know what she could do to make us realize he was interacting fine with his peers and he was happy.

That is CRAP!

Anyone who watches Ben know he wants to hang out with his peers but they usually tolerate him at best. We finally had an epiphany tonight and realized the problem is she is not ASKING him questions she is TELLING him things and he is agreeing with her because if he doesn't he is "Making excuses" or "Talking back." We discovered this when she said she was "Proud" of him because he was no longer "Making excuses" and was trying to put real effort into his work.

So my poor son who I have put through 2 thirds of a year of crap with this old bat while we wait for LISD to finally get around to giving us the evaluation we already knew. I now know he just isn't fighting back anymore, not that he is "Adjusting."

I don't know who I hate more, her for doing this or me for letting her do it.

I'm sorry Ben.

RIP Jeff Healey

Jeff Healey has passed away. He was a talented man and it's a shame he had fallen from the headlines. It really makes me feel wierd when the guys I looked up to when I first started playing music are passing away.

I guess I will always remeber Jeff for his part in Roadhouse with the pre-questionable sexuality Patrick Swayze.

I look forward to playing in the big band with you later Jeff.
